Team Spotlight: Teo Wen Jing

Meet Wen Jing, our Digital Marketing Executive with a keen eye for detail. She plays a crucial role in planning and creating captivating content for Multikulti social media accounts and our esteemed clients. Get to know more about Wen Jing, her motivations and challenges, and her experience working at Nomadic Collective.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I switch between a few hobbies because I tend to get bored easily. Recently I’ve been into reading. Usually I’ll alternate between non-fiction and fiction, with history and fantasy being my favourite genres!

If not, I’ll be watching movies (whatever that is on my never-ending watchlist), doodling on Procreate, or playing Animal Crossing on my Nintendo Switch. (Yes, it was not a lockdown phase for me.)

How do you stay motivated and inspired in your work?

I stay inspired by looking at all the content online as it helps me to see what people are doing and appreciate all their creativity that might give me ideas when I need them. Also, deadlines keep me motivated haha.

What led you to pursue a career in Digital Marketing in this field?

I’ve always wanted to work in a role that allows me to be creative and also has something to do with the lifestyle industry.

What's the most important lesson you've learned in life so far?

Don’t hold on to regrets! There’s probably a lesson to learn in every failure.

What are you most challenged by in your role?

Managing expectations of different stakeholders in projects.

What are your favourite campaigns or projects that you've worked on, and why?

There was an activation at Design Orchard for about 2 months called ‘The Non Season’ and it’s one of my favourite projects so far. It was the first project where I had to be involved in multiple ways and it allowed me to experience all the challenges I might face in my role for future projects. I also enjoyed it because the activation included everything from art to music to lifestyle!

For City Nomads, I like the column we just reintroduced called City Nomads Radio. It features a lot of great artists and I like reading all their stories and finding new music.

What do you enjoy most about working at Multikulti/Nomadic Collective?

I like that it’s a place where creativity is appreciated and the supportive environment allows me to stay curious without the fear of judgement.

What advice would you give to someone starting their career in this field?

Be willing to learn everything even if you think that it’s not a skill directly related to your role. Digital marketing consists of a lot of things so it might turn out to be useful in another way. Who knows?

Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.

For a brief moment in my life, I wanted to be a stage actor. I don’t think I have much talent for it.
